How to get to the cabin

The cabin is in Cenarth, near Newcastle Emlyn and Cardigan. Whichever way you come to the cabin there are lots of great places on the way to stop off – for a coffee, a walk to stretch the legs, or even overnight.

Traveling from the north:

Exit the M56 in North Wales via Queensferry/Mold, taking the A494 to Ruthin. At the Craft Centre in Ruthin there is a nice coffee shop. Follow this through Bala and on towards Dolgellau. Bala has shops/cafes etc, plus walk along lake or miniature railway ride. Dolgellau is a nice town, and from there you can cycle the Mawdach trail (9 miles) to Barmouth.

Turn onto B4416 at Brithdir, at top of road turn left and follow signs for Machynlleth. At Brithdir, you can follow a waymarked circular trail down a waterfall walk, taking around an hour. Before you reach Machynlleth, there is The Corris Craft Centre, Tan-y-Coed forest picnic spot and The Centre for Alternative Technology with wholefood café.

Machynelleth has shops, money, petrol and cafés. Just past there is Ynshir RSPB reserve, with wonderful views over the Dyfi Estuary and the Snowdon range, as well as Geese and many other birds.

The road follows the coast round to Aberystwyth, with its many seaside attractions and the start of the Devils Bridge railway. Further down the coast is Aberaeron, with picturesque pastel painted cottages and the famous Harbourmaster restaurant.

Before you actually reach Caban Casita, you will pass a farm shop, and can either go via Cardigan or Newcastle Emlyn where you can pick up supplies if needed.

Alternatively, go via Chester/Wrexham and on the A5 to Oswestry, passing Erdigg and Chirk Castle (both National Trust). Continue on to Welshpool (Powis Castle, National Trust) and Welshpool narrow gauge railway.

Then to Newton and Llandridrod Wells, both with nice shops/cafes. From there you can go via Machynlleth as above, or you can travel across country to Devils Bridge and take in the Waterfalls walk, then to Lampeter, through ‘red kite’ country.
